Another study, conducted at the North Carolina State University, tried to see if there is a correlation between player choices and their assigned roles in a video game created for the study. “Our results indicate that just five minutes of role-playing in virtual environments as either a hero or villain can easily cause people to reward or punish anonymous strangers,” said lead researcher Gunwoo Yoon. It was a study where the behavior of the participants towards others were observed after having them play either a villain or a hero character in a game. According to a study by researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the roles players take in RPGs can somehow affect how they interact with people in real life. Did you know that role-playing games can influence behavior? And not in a bad way too! Most of the time, at least.
